Becky Nurse of Salem
By Sarah Ruhl
“Becky Nurse of Salem” is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, Inc.
“It conjures a dark comedy about power, inheritance, and the opioid epidemic.” —The New York Times
“Witchcraft of the finest sort.”—Talkin’ Broadway
Becky, a sassy blue-collar grandma in modern-day Massachusetts, gets fired from her job at the Salem Witch Museum. She suspects her run of bad luck is a curse from her ancestor Rebecca Nurse, who was hanged for witchcraft in 1692. She sets off on a darkly comic exploration of contemporary magic to save herself and her troubled granddaughter. But their small town is in the grip of a new kind of possession: opioids. Becky must brave a harrowing trip through America’s past and present to forge a more hopeful future for herself and those she loves.
