Calling ALL LOCAL ACTORS – union and non-union — for two great productions at theREP!
On-The-Go Touring Production:
Since 1998, theREP’s On-The-Go tours have performed in schools, community centers and theatres throughout the Capital Region. These one-hour performances highlight literature and history associated with New York State. Performances take place Monday-Saturday, mostly daytime and occasionally early evenings. Performance schedule varies according to weekly bookings. Actors travel in theREP van to and from all venues; NO OVERNIGHTS.
Production: SLEEPY HOLLOW, based on the short story by Washington Irving, Adapted by Maggie Mancinelli-Cahill.
Directed by: Margaret E. Hall
Synopsis: It’s a dark and stormy night and the bridge to the Tarrytown recording studio has washed out, leaving two local yokels – the Knickerbocker Brothers–to perform their annual podcast of the classic ghost story “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” with the town’s “magical” and lovely baker, Jasmine Vander Hooven. The trio reenacts Irving’s spooky tale with devastatingly funny–and spooky–results! With live Foley sound effects and music, Irving’s tale gets a contemporary treatment that honors the original and is sure to inspire and delight audiences 8 to 80!
First Rehearsal: 9/26 (daytimes 10-6); First performance: 10/15; closes 11/2
(Performance Schedule: Monday-Saturdays. Times vary. Mostly daytime with some early evenings.)
Seeking (2) Male presenting actors/musicians and (1) Female presenting actor, all should be versatile, physically agile, quick-study actors.
This is not a musical, but all actors involved in the production need to move well.
- Male presenting, Open Ethnicity: Wilbur Knickerbocker – 20s-30s; A tall and somewhat gangly man; he is the anxiety-ridden brother who follows his brother Webster’s demands, mostly. Wilbur will play Ichabod Crane, the gangly teacher who comes to Sleepy Hollow and whose main delight in life is food and the company of the ladies of the town. Actor will also play several other characters, male and female, within the story. Must be able to sing a folk ditty, play guitar, and either the banjo or violin–one who plays all three is a major plus.
- Male presenting, Open Ethnicity: Webster Knickerbocker – 20s-30s; A handsome and burly man; he is the somewhat overbearing brother “in charge” who will play Brom Bones, he is the macho would-be hero of his small town. Actor will also play several other characters, male and female, within the story. Must be able to play piano, and guitar/violin skills are a plus.
- Female presenting, Open Ethnicity: Jasmine Vander Hooven – 20s-30s; she’s very pretty, runs the bakery in town, and her treats are “magical.” She arrives just in time to help the brothers put on their podcast, playing the role of Katrina Van Tassel, as well as several other characters, male and female, within the story. She is very fun, full of energy and even seems to have some actual magical powers. Guitar, ukulele, violin, piano skills are a plus.
