“Beautiful: The Carole King” Breaks Records at theREP
Audiences agree; summer musical a smashing success
ALBANY—Since its inception, Capital Repertory Theatre has produced more than 300 shows across 6,000 performances, including over 45 world premieres.
Every production has amplified theREP’s reputation of creating meaningful theatre—leading the region in artistic excellence and innovation. “Beautiful: The Carole King Musical” is no exception—producing the highest box office revenue and attendance since theREP became affiliated with Proctors Collaborative in 2013. The show was sponsored by Hacker Murphy.
“More than 12,000 people came through our doors this summer—many experiencing our new theatre for the first time,” said theREP’s Artistic Producing Director Maggie Mancinelli-Cahill. “It’s so gratifying to introduce people to the new space, which was made possible by thousands of people across the region who supported our efforts to create this new home.”
“Beautiful” just closed its five-week run at theREP this past Sunday and patrons are still talking about the show. “It’s rare when all the elements of a production work together to create something special that has great appeal to so many people. That is what happened with ‘Beautiful,’” said Mancinelli-Cahill. “The music, design and amazing cast touched audiences and gave people a moment of joy—not an easy task in our world today—and absolutely wonderful to behold.”
Now, theREP quickly turns its sights to the 24-25 season sponsored by Overit with the fall show, “Seared,” beginning previews Sept. 13 and sponsored by CSArch. “We’re so thankful to our Capital Region audiences for embracing and supporting theREP by coming out to see live theatre,” Mancinelli-Cahill continues. “If someone asked me what I want most right now, I would say to our audience members who came to the theatre for the first time, ‘Come back! You won’t be disappointed.”
